Running with Scars

A Novel

NOW AVAILABLE!

Running with Scars follows Arica Hatchins, the only daughter of Miranda and Thatcher Hatchins. She is working hard to recover from a few questionable choices, while settling into a new relationship. At 28, Ari is still searching for her path, the journey that leads to home. Along the way she encounters both new and old temptations which threatens her resolve. Will she have the courage to ward off Laurin Edwards, her first love and the wife of her mother’s former mentee? What about Jennifer Salva, the eclectic artiste, with a perfect smile and a one of kind talent? Take a run with Ari in my new novel as she navigates past pains, confusion, and ego along her way home.

I am from the generation that grew up on Atari, Nintendo, and Legos. I played with Tonka trucks and never had a touch of hand sanitizer until I was old enough to get great rates on car insurance. We didn’t get awards for showing up and the only social media we had while I was in high school was the lunch table. I am of the generation X. I can be sarcastic and emotional, hypocritical and sincere. These are the stories I write about. The mix of hypocrisy, snark, and authenticity which fuels growth.

I choose not to be confined to any one box. Some of my characters love. Some of my character hate. Some lie. Some seek truth. I write stories I’ve lived, seen, and hope to see. Hopefully you find something in my words that helps you along your way.

Writing is one of the most therapeutic exercises you could engage in. Yes, it can be disappointing and stressful; it can be draining and time-consuming. It can also be healing, reflective, and productive. Like any weapon , you must choose to use it wisely.

Home to Harper Ari entered the kitchen, setting her keys in the bowl by the fridge. She turned, watching Harper cut fruit at the kitchen island. Walking up behind her, resting her face on Harper’s shoulder, Ari reached for a slice of kiwi. “Ouch.” Ari snapped. “Wash...

“Are we running in the morning?” The comforting deep voice helped Ari find some modicum of calm.
“Yes we are, Sir lazy bones.” Ari said.
“I am not lazy. I am energy-cautious. How was it?” Sol said.
“The same as always. I’m a failure and she should have locked me in the dungeon when she had the chance.”

“Sit up straight. My goodness. You’d think I raised a wild animal.” Ari held the sides of her chair and slid upwards. She searched the air for a distraction as her mother continued, “I spoke with the Dean. He tells me that you are doing well. I imagine to appease me of course. Pandering for another donation, no doubt.”
